Meet Our Tutor Time Staff – Ms. Darby, Twos Teacher

Ms. Darby is the lead Twos teacher at our Tutor Time school in Downington, PA. She has worked as a teacher at this location for nearly three years and loves watching her students reach amazing milestones throughout the year. Read on to learn more about this wonderful member of our team!

Can you tell us some more about your background?

I went to Technical College High School – Brandywine, and I studied early childhood care and education there. I completed all my hours while working in the daycare at the campus and then I worked at a summer camp the summer I graduated. I came straight here after the summer. I came here as a child so that’s how I knew to come here. I’ve been here ever since!

What’s fun about teaching the two-year-old class?

I like watching them go from being a little baby to being a big kid. It’s really exciting to see them go from not knowing how to use a fork to being potty trained and being a big preschooler.

Speaking of potty training, do you have any advice for parents who are about to embark on that journey with their little ones?

You need to wait until they’re really ready, because if you start before they’re ready, you’re just going to be doing it for six months and it’s going to be stressful. When they start showing signs, when they start keeping their diaper dry, you can start. Just go full on, drinking lots of fluids and going on the potty!

How’s your relationship with the families at your center?

I’m very close to all my families. At least every night we talk for five minutes, we get along so well. I do a lot with the brightwheel mobile app, even for goofy things! It’s a good relationship, I’m very open with them.

Why do you feel early education programs are important for kids?

I think that they are really important, especially for being social with other infants and other babies. We’re pushing them to be the best that they can be. Going into kindergarten, you can tell who had that extra push.

If your students could describe you in one word, what would it be?

Silly. We have dance parties, I’ll get up and dance with them, when we read books, I have to do the voices. Singing and dancing…I’m just being a goofball, being a kid.

Overall, what do you like about working at Tutor Time?

It’s just a really great place for families. The director is amazing; she says “hi” to every single person that walks through this door. I know kids in the infant program and I know kids in school age, I know their parents. We’re one big family.
