Why did you decide on a career in early education?
Because I loved teaching and there’s joy in advancing their academic journeys. I greatly feel the desire to share ideas, communicate concepts and I like to see the students’ progress over time. And I know that every day I’ll be learning something new, whether it’s from my parents or my students. And I know that I will be a great impact on someone’s life.
What do you love about working with pre-k students?
They’re very independent. It’s very interesting to be with them as they get ready for kindergarten. Some of them might have difficulties in some areas, but they are always willing to try. I always let them know that as long as we keep practicing, we’ll be perfect at what we do. They use that constantly throughout the day. They always tell me, “We’re not going to give up, we’re going to keep practicing because we’re going to get better.”
In your opinion, why do you feel early education programs are critical for children in today’s day and age?
They are our future. They need their education and we get them ready for their future.
How do you ensure strong communication with your students’ parents?
Every morning I ask how was your evening, how was your morning? I also message each parent every day through the brightwheel app, and I let them know that if they have any questions or concerns, or if they want to know about something we’re doing in the classroom, they can always email me.
What has been a memorable moment for you since you’ve been at Tutor Time?
Graduation. They sing and then they actually walk out the door to “Pomp and Circumstance.” They have their cap and gown, they sing songs. That is the most memorable time ever.
How do you think your students would describe your teaching style?
They always tell me I act like a kid! I ask them why and they say, “You act like a kid because you like to have fun! You roll on the floor, you play with us, you color.” They love it!
What do you enjoy about working at Tutor Time?
It’s an easy place to work. Me, I’m a team player, so if I can help another teacher I do. We all are just one big happy family.
